Rob Johnston in concert

Rob Johnston hails from Hampshire and has been writing, performing and recording his unique style of instrumental guitar music and songs for many years in Art Centres, clubs and major Acoustic and Folk Festivals. He has played live on BBC Radio several times and has received impressive reviews for his work.

Rob has a stunning guitar technique that blends many styles (both finger picking and plectrum) and he uses multiple tunings to enhance the sound he makes. (Martin Simpson, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and Pierre Bensusan are key influences in forming his own style.)

Not afraid of a bit of technology, Rob uses looping effects to add intricate layers of melody and guitar percussion to his instrumental pieces and his subtle and poetic songs.

The latest Album, Message to the Moon (Wooden Box Records) is a showcase for the rich and emotive range of ideas that this unique and skilled player can produce.
